Philadelphia suspected gunman in custody after six officers s ahot in hourslong standoff

A suspect is in custody in Philadelphia after an hourslong standoff and gunfire battle that left six officers shot and another injured in a related vehicle crash, authorities said. Two officers and three other people who had been trapped in the building with the shooter were freed after several hours.

Police had initially responded around 5 p.m. on a narcotics warrant and things "went awry almost immediately," Police Commissioner Richard Ross said. 

The commissioner said at a nighttime press conference that police were trying to communicate with a "single male" suspect. Police spokesperson Eric Gripp tweeted earlier that police are "imploring him to surrender and avoid further injuries."

قالت السلطات إن مشتبها به رهن الاحتجاز في فيلادلفيا بعد مواجهة استمرت لساعات طويلة ومعركة إطلاق نار أسفرت عن مقتل ستة ضباط وإصابة آخر في حادث تحطم سيارة. تم إطلاق سراح ضابطين وثلاثة أشخاص آخرين كانوا محاصرين في المبنى مع مطلق النار بعد عدة ساعات.

وردت الشرطة في البداية حوالي الساعة 5 مساءً. وقال مفوض الشرطة ريتشارد روس إنه بناء على أمر مخدرات ، "سارت الأمور على الفور تقريبًا".

وقال المفوض في مؤتمر صحفي ليلي إن الشرطة كانت تحاول الاتصال بمشتبه فيه "أعزب". تويت المتحدث باسم الشرطة إريك غريب في وقت سابق أن الشرطة "يطلب منه الاستسلام وتجنب المزيد من الإصابات".
